These questions and answers are Primarily written by Steph Santi, our founder with 20+ years experience. An insurance agent often works for one company, while a broker is independent and works for their clients across multiple companies. While agents are more helpful than buying directly online, they typically only know the rules and underwriting requirements of that one company. Brokers learn the insurance industry as a whole, so they're better prepared to answer how things will affect you across companies.Because they work independently and can move your account across different insurers, they also have more capability and leverage to help if something goes wrong with a claim. If a company won't cover something they should, they have the ability to take all of their business and move it. Companies typically take that seriously and aim to take care of customers working with a broker. You also have the option of choice with a broker, since they'll be able to offer multiple prices. You won't be stuck with a single company if your price goes up over time, making it a better long-term investment on your part.
Some companies have a website/app you can log into to make changes on your own, but you are always welcome to call in or send an email to service@automatebrokers.com. We usually respond within the same business day, but our goal is 24-48 business hours at the latest. Please note coverage is not effective until you receive confirmation.
There could be many reasons, but the most common are if you recently made a change (such as adding a new vehicle), a renewal increase, or a discount removal. When you make a change, thecost difference is usually added to the next bill or spread out across the remaining bills this term, which could mean it looks like it will cost more than you expected. However, if you pay the difference for the change, following months should go back to 'normal'. In the case of discounts being lost, keep an eye out for action items from your insurance company to ensure you don't miss anything.
Besides our one-time setup fee, billing and payments are handled by your insurance company, not Auto Mate. We can process payment with you over the phone, setup autopay, and make other changes, but for the most part Auto Mate does not bill you or collect funds. Certain commercial or business policies are an exception to this rule. When commercial companies bill us, we'll be the ones to bill you directly or send refunds once received by the company. We offer both pay-in-full and finance options in house.
Currently, no. We do however have recommended partners we can refer you to.
